South Coast Tour

About this experience

Set out on a private journey from Reykjavík or the Keflavík area to explore Iceland’s south coast in comfort and at your own pace. The experience is designed to feel smooth and unhurried, allowing you to take in the landscapes along the way.

Stops include the iconic waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, both around 60 meters high, where you can experience their raw power up close. You’ll then continue to Sólheimajökull glacier, located between the volcanoes Eyjafjallajökull and Katla, where ice, ash, and rugged terrain meet.

The journey continues to the famous black sand beach, known for its basalt columns and powerful sneaker waves. Nearby, you’ll visit the coastal village of Vík í Mýrdal, one of Iceland’s most recognizable small towns, before beginning the return journey.

This private tour offers a comfortable and flexible way to experience the south coast, combining natural highlights with a more considered pace throughout the day.

Itinerary and highlights

We will stop at this stunning and iconic 60-meter high waterfall, allowing you to experience its beauty up close and you can get extremely close to it, feeling the fresh water on your face even! If you walk close to the river, the water is super fresh and good to drink!

The drop of the water is about 60 meters (200 ft) high and 25 meters (82 ft) wide. There are a few ways to admire the waterfall, either from the steps on the right side of the waterfall where you have a beautiful view from above, or right in front of it where you can feel all of its power.

We do have many glaciers in Iceland, especially on the south coast of the island. We stop at Sólheimajökull which is a glacier and is located between two of our most famous volcanoes, Eyjafjallajökull and Katla. The glacier is part of a bigger one called Mýrdalsjökull and is fairly accessible.

Reynisfjara Nature is beautiful at the black sand beach and the basaltic columns by the beach are one of a kind. The three cliffs called Reynisdrangar rise up in the ocean with the island Dyrahólaey not far away, making it one of the most stunning phenomenon in our country.

The southernmost village on the Icelandic mainland with 750 inhabitants. In 1991, the US journal Islands Magazine counted the beach at Vík as one of the ten most beautiful beaches on Earth.
