Planning perspective
How I’d plan this experience
I’d choose this tour if you want a guided, flexible attempt at seeing the Northern Lights rather than a fixed sightseeing itinerary. The group is capped at 19, and the evening is shaped by the aurora forecast: you may drive to a selected spot, wait, or move if conditions suggest another location is worth trying. Hot chocolate, Icelandic pastries and wool blankets add comfort, but the lights themselves are never guaranteed. My advice is to treat this as an opportunity to chase them—not a promise of a show—and to leave room in your trip for a possible second attempt.
Who this suits—and what to expect
This is a good fit if you’re happy to spend a night outdoors and let a guide make the calls about where to look. The outing lasts four hours, but that time can include driving and waiting; it isn’t four hours of aurora viewing. The small-group format may also suit you better than travelling with a large coachload, though up to 19 guests can still be a lively shared outing.
I’d recommend it most to travellers who can stay patient if the sky is slow to cooperate. Several accounts describe guides checking conditions and trying different locations, but cloud cover can still defeat a well-planned chase. Dress warmly in layers, including hat, gloves and scarf, because blankets are an extra layer rather than a substitute for suitable outdoor clothing.
Plan for a possible second try
If seeing the aurora is a priority, I’d place this tour early in your stay when your schedule allows. That leaves more scope to use the free rebooking offer if your first outing has no sightings and another tour has space. A repeat is not guaranteed, though, and it’s not a refund for an attended tour that comes back empty-handed.
There’s an important distinction if weather disrupts the evening: the information provided allows a full refund when the tour is cancelled for bad weather and you haven’t attended. Confirmation is given on the day, so build some flexibility into your plans rather than treating the departure as certain well in advance.
Pickup, comfort and practical limits
Pickup is included from designated meeting points and starts 30 minutes before the tour; be ready at your assigned location. The departure time varies by season, and tour confirmation is provided on the day. I’d keep the afternoon and evening relatively flexible so a delayed decision or changing forecast doesn’t put you under pressure.
Hot chocolate, pastries, blankets and guide-taken photos are included, with photos conditional on conditions. One real trade-off is that restroom access outside urban areas is very limited. Dietary restrictions cannot be accommodated on this tour, so the included snacks may not work for everyone; factor that in when deciding whether this is the right outing for you.

Itinerary and highlights
First off, you will start your hunt for the Northern Lights with a bit of planning via the Aurora forecast and start your exploration by heading towards the selected location. You might drive for up to one hour to reach a good spot and perhaps wait for the lights to appear. At this point, we take out the hot chocolate and Icelandic pastries. We also have Icelandic wool blankets on board to keep you warm while standing outside.
There may be the decision of changing spots, by interacting with other locals as there are many different people outside looking for lights every night. We do this to increase the possibilities of finding Northern Lights. If there are no northern lights while on tour, you get to try again for free (upon availability).
By traveling in a minibus you get the quality of a small group of no more than 19 people, as crowds are being avoided in order to get to the best spot available.
