About this experience
This 2.5 -hour journey will lead you on top of both Reykjavik Peak and Lava Fields Mountain.
You will begin your day by being picked up by the ATV Operator team and taken to their newly made headquarters, with well-equipped bathrooms and free coffee available.
After the briefing, you will start your ATV journey across Hafravatn Lake and the Icelandic wilderness. Ascend Reykjavik Peak to enjoy the view, then tackle the steeper Lava Fields Mountain. These peaks offer fantastic views over Faxafloi bay, Esja mountain, Reykjavik, and the Blue Mountains. You can also see the steam from the Hellisheidi Geothermal power plant.
No alcohol or drug tolerance is allowed on our tours. Participants showing up under the influence are not entitled to a refund.

Planning perspective
How I’d plan this experience
This Twin Peaks ATV outing is a practical way to trade Reykjavik’s streets for rougher terrain and wide views, without planning your own route into the surrounding wilderness. The ride includes two mountain ascents, but the choice between riding solo and sharing an ATV changes the feel of the experience. My advice is to decide that first, then plan carefully around the pickup: downtown hotel collection has a small but important catch.
Who I’d recommend it for
Choose this if you want an active outing with a guide, varied ground and scenery rather than a passive sightseeing trip. The described terrain includes asphalt, gravel, rocky paths and steep slopes, and the activity calls for at least a moderate level of physical fitness. Although it is presented as suitable for beginners as well as experienced riders, I’d treat that as reassurance about experience level, not a promise that the ride will feel gentle.
A valid driver’s licence is required to drive. The stated minimum age for a passenger is eight, and the activity is not recommended for pregnant travellers or people with spinal injuries. Those are meaningful suitability limits, not details to leave until departure day.
Choose the ATV arrangement that fits
I’d choose the single-rider option if you want your own quad and are eligible to drive; it is listed as a one-person-per-ATV arrangement. The sharing option is for two people on one ATV and requires at least two people to book. That can suit a pair who would rather ride together, but it means sharing control and the ride itself rather than each having a vehicle.
Check the option wording carefully before booking: the shared choice is described as a two-person ATV, not as two separate quads. Whichever you select, the stated inclusions cover a guide and protective gear, including helmet, gloves, overalls, ski mask and rain gear.
Build in time for pickup
Pickup is included, but don’t assume a vehicle will collect you right outside a downtown hotel. Central Reykjavik has no-pickup zones, so you may need to walk to a designated nearby bus stop; the stated walk is typically two to five minutes. You need to choose a stop and communicate it, and the pickup process can take up to 30 minutes.
Be ready at the departure time specified for your booking, rather than treating the scheduled start as the moment the ride begins. If you prefer to make your own way, the basecamp instructions say to arrive 15 minutes before departure. I’d keep food plans flexible too: food and drinks are not included.
The trade-off: a demanding ride, not just a viewpoint stop
The appeal is the combination of two ascents and open views; the trade-off is that you have to earn them on an off-road ride over varied terrain. If you mainly want easy panoramic sightseeing, I’d pick a less physical outing. This one makes more sense when the ATV journey is part of what you want, not merely transport to a viewpoint.
The overview describes the adventure as 2.5 hours, while the listing gives a three-and-a-half-hour duration. I wouldn’t plan a tight connection on the assumption that those figures mean the same thing: pickup and drop-off are also included in the stated arrangements.
