About this experience
Join us for a two-day adventure to Iceland’s spectacular South Coast. The journey's highlights include visits to the iconic Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, a guided glacier hike on ancient ice, and the opportunity to enter a natural blue ice cave (Oct-Mar). You will explore the surreal beauty of Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and the nearby Diamond Beach, followed by a stop at the famous Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach. In the evenings, you’ll have a prime chance to spot the Northern Lights thanks to a remote countryside hotel stay.
This comprehensive 2-day tour offers an efficient way to experience the vast geological diversity of Iceland's South Coast, departing from Reykjavík.
Please note: Northern Lights sightings are a natural seasonal occurrence and not a guaranteed guided tour included in our multi-day packages.

Planning perspective
How I’d plan this experience
I’d choose this two-day trip if you want to reach the South Coast’s glacier country without organizing separate transport and overnight accommodation. It brings together waterfalls, a guided glacier hike, an ice cave, Jökulsárlón lagoon and a countryside overnight stay. The trade-off is a full, weather-dependent itinerary: this is a way to cover a lot, not a slow stay in one place.
Who I’d recommend it for
This suits you if you have limited time and want both the famous coastal stops and an active glacier experience. The itinerary includes visits to Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, then a glacier hike and ice cave, with Jökulsárlón and Diamond Beach on the trip as well. I’d particularly consider it if you’re comfortable spending much of two days travelling between sights in a shared group.
The ice cave visit is seasonal: the overview describes it as available October to March. The glacier hike is a substantial part of the plan, so even though the listing describes the trip as suitable for all fitness levels, I’d focus on whether a guided hike on ice sounds appealing to you. Safety equipment for both activities is included.
Plan around flexibility, not a fixed sequence
The listed itinerary divides the highlights across two days, but I wouldn’t treat that order as a promise. Weather, road conditions and activity availability can change the daily plan, and activities may move between days. Traveller feedback includes an example of the glacier activities being shifted to make use of better conditions; that’s a useful reminder that flexibility can help the experience, even if it means a different sequence from the one you pictured.
My advice is to be ready for a change of plan and to judge the trip by the overall mix of experiences rather than expecting a particular sight at a particular time. Weather can also affect how comfortable stops feel, so bring warm layers and rain protection.
Make the pickup and luggage workable
Pickup starts at 8:00 and may take up to 30 minutes, so be at the selected location and confirm whether that means your hotel or a nearby designated bus stop. The listing notes that pickup from Keflavík airport and locations outside the greater capital area isn’t available; this is a Reykjavik departure, not an airport transfer.
Pack with the stated luggage limit in mind: one suitcase up to 24 inches per person, with no multiple luggage allowed. If your plans require more bags, the listing notes that some luggage may need to go into storage. Breakfast and overnight accommodation are included, but lunch and dinner are not, so plan for those meals separately.
Keep expectations realistic for the Northern Lights
A countryside overnight gives you a chance to look for the Northern Lights, but it can’t guarantee a sighting. I’d treat it as a welcome possibility rather than the reason to choose the tour. The concrete trade-off is that the two-day format covers many different places, while weather can change both the order and the feel of the stops. If having a fixed schedule or guaranteed aurora viewing matters most to you, this may not be the right fit.
